Starlights bring home the medals from Synchro Sectionals
January 18 through 20 was filled with medals for all Skokie Valley Starlights' teams who attended the 2007 Midwestern / Pacific Coast Synchronized Team Skating Sectional Championships held in Geneva Illinois. Friday's competition began with the Starlights Preliminary team who skated to music by Prince and earned second place medals. Twenty-four girls on the Juvie team were dressed and skated as Angels to also earn silver medals.                             [Novice Starlights team (below)]

As the afternoon progressed, the Intermediate team skated against eleven competitive Midwest teams and earned pewter medals skating to music by Stray Cats. Next, music from the musical Hair rocked the Novice team to Gold medals and the Midwest Champions of their division.

Finally, the Junior team skated their short program to music called The Raven. These girls earned enough points to be in fourth place going into their long program. On Saturday, the Junior team held their ground skating a beautiful long program to Malaguena, which earned them the pewter medal for their combined skates.

Overall, each Starlights team earned medals and the Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice and Junior teams will advance to Nationals which will be held in Colorado Springs at the end of February. Beyond that, the Novice team will represent the United States skating in the Leon Lurje Trophy Competition held in Gothenburg, Sweden in March.

Auditions for the Starlights will be held in April/ May. If anyone is interested in trying out for a team, please contact Chris Heiser-Karedis at bgcoach121@comcast.net. Additional information about the Starlights can be found at www.starlights.us.
